EXCLUSIVE: Shilpa Shirodkar clarifies being called ‘sex symbol of the 90s’; shares an incident connected with Amitabh Bachchan starrer Hum

Shilpa Shirodkar is an Indian actress and former photo model who worked primarily in Hindi-language films from 1989 to 2000. After a 13-year hiatus from acting, she made her comeback to acting, this time on television in the Zee TV series Ek Mutthi Aasmaan in 2013. In 2024, she participated in Bigg Boss 18. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Shilpa Shirodkar clarifies her bikini rumours while filming the movie Hum.

When asked about the rumours concerning her wearing a bikini, Shilpa Shirodkar answered, “I didn’t wear a bikini ever. Swimwear I wore in ‘Hum’ with the surrounds. That was not a bikini or anything like that, but in Bhrastachar me ek rape scene tha joh bohot bada ban gaya tha, toh I think that is what you’re talking about. But the only time I ever wore a swimming costume was in ‘Hum.’ Actually, Hum was the film, Kimmy Katkar was there in Jumma Chumma.”

The actress added, “And that was the last film, toh you know they have to fill that tag because Kimmy was at that time the sex symbol of the industry aur uske baad mera joh gaana tha Sanam Mere Sanam was as hot as you know. Toh, I think it was easier saying ki yeh void Shilpa fill karegi. But it worked, I didn’t have any problem, log mannte the aur mujhe kabhi nahi laga ki mai woh effort karu ki nahi nahi mai woh nahi hu, hum log actor the hume kaam karna tha aur hum log kaam karte rahe. Log tag dete rahe aur hum kaam karte rahe; it really didn’t matter or make a difference.”
